When the Albany was showing Atonement in 2008, the marquee read:

Keira Knightley's
Atonement
For Domino

What a great joke. Does anyone have a picture of that?

Wonder if that noisy heater that hangs from the ceiling in the front right corner of the downstairs auditorium has been replaced or quieted down. The last time I saw a movie there it kept cycling on and off every 10 minutes or so and really disrupted the sound track. Haven’t been back since.

This theatre needs a major remodel job. Landmark won’t spend a dime on it. Needs curtains fixed and working. The stereo sound needs a upgrade, the surrounds are never on. The little art deco lights on the side are dirty and dusty. The out side is the wrong color. The only good thing is the lobby. I have never been upstairs in the twin. Landmark runs the California also, I think they just lease both theatres and won’t spend any money on them. The people of the east bay need better art theatres.

When the theatre was a single screen house it seated 650 people.

Nice touch of history from the Landmark website recommended by Lost Memory, but the site got one thing wrong—-the Albany was plexed at least five years prior to 1979 (I saw “Young Frankenstein” there in late 1974—-in the upstairs theater; meaning the theater was plexed no later than earlier that year).

Whoever last updated this appears to have set it with Landscape rather than Portrait!!!!!
