The Register Building was constructed in 1872 housing the Elbows Clothing Store. Around 1890, the Effingham Opera House was incorporated on the third floor of the building. It later became the Orpheum Theater in the 1920’s showing silent movies until closing on June 1, 1929 with Jack Holt in “The Warning”. Today, the building host the Village Wine Shop store.
