Opened as the Royal Theatre in the 1910’s, In 1916 it was remodeled and the seating capacity was increased. On August 18, 1935 it was renamed State Theatre with Katharine Hepburn in “Alice Adams”. It was destroyed by fire on January 15, 1944.

The Royal was remodeled and its seating capacity increased in 1916, according to an item in the November 4 issue of Moving Picture World. The Royal had ben listed at 720 Central Avenue in the 1914-1915 American Motion Picture Directory.

Reopened as the State theatre on August 18th, 1935. Grand opening ad posted.
