Originally opened as the Lyric Theatre and Opera House prior to 1929, when it was purchased by Leon & Cecilia Asper and converted to sound films from photo-plays/silent films.

It burned down in 1936 but was rebuilt in a Streamline Moderne style, and was still in operation in 1941 in the new building, when the Aspers had apparently sold it.

It has since been demolished and Tanner’s Crossing Park is now on the site.
