The Rex Theatre appears on the 1914 Sanborn, operating in an old 2-story tin front. The theatre space does not extend all the way to the rear because of a small storefront facing W. Peter Street. The theatre only appears to occupy the ground floor. There is also a bootblack operating in a tiny storefront to one side of the entrance.
The building appears at least as early as 1886, and was a bakery until its conversion to a theatre. I doubt it lasted very long (it had closed by 1926), given the purpose-built competition opening around the same time. Nearly the entire block has been destroyed, with some grim senior housing taking up the majority of the space.
