The RKO Twin Rockville Center opened on July 9, 1969 with Bob Hope in “How to Commit Marriage” showing on both screens. This cinema had a great marquee as long as the whole front of the building. This was one of the real early twins that had not only a wall down the middle of the cinema, but also in the lobby. You could not switch auditoriums because each side had its own ticket booth, bathrooms and concession stand. The lobby is now one again. The theater closed on January 19, 2006 with the Disney animation feature “Chicken Little”, and after years standing empty, it was demolished in May 2013. A seafood restaurant now occupies the site.

Building is long gone. New one is arising.
Just demolished last year .
Well, last year is a lot longer ago than “currently being demolished” as posted on 2/4/14. It seems that the empty space was there for months before new construction started.
PLEASE UPDATE, THEATRE OPEN JULY 9, 1969 WITH “HOW TO COMMIT MARRIAGE” ON TWO SCREENS. Just uploaded the grand opening ad.
Also, uploaded photos of both screens. The bad thing watching matinees at this theatre, anytime someone open the door, you would get a glare.
Please update, theatre closed January 19, 2006 just before AMC took control of Loews Cineplex Entertainment
When the theatre closed, it had Dolby Stereo in both house since 1981 and dts digital sound in the big house. Seats were replaced in 1996
