Schauburg Linden

In 1916 a dancehall was converted into the Kino-Palast with a capacity of 378-seats. It was operated by M. Scharnhofske. In 1920 it was re-named Schauburg Lichtspiele and the seating capacity was increased to 700. In 1931 a sound system was installed and the cinema was operated by Scharnofske & Engelke Hannoverische Film Theater Betriebe GmbH. In the same year the seating capacity was increased to 1,042. In 1945 the roof of the building was destroyed by Allied bombs in World War II and the cinema was closed.

It was repaired and re-opened in 1949, operated by Engelke. In 1955 it was remodelled to the plans of architects Lichtenhahn & Klueppelberg. In 1956 the E VII B projectors by Ernemann were replaced by B 12 projectors by Bauer. At the same time CinemaScope was added. The stage was enlarged to 12 x 5 x 5 metres. The seats were by Schroeder & Henzelmann. The Schauburg Linden was closed in 1967. It was later in use as a store and office. In 2019 it operates as a Tedi store, selling household goods.
