Located in the Oststadt district in the nother of the city centre. The street was originally named Alte Celler Heerstrasse 38. In 1920 the Burgdorf fanchall was transformed into the Universum Theater Lichtspiele with 228-seats. It was operated by Julius Titter who was based in Halle. In 1921 the seating capacity was increased to 600. In 1928 it was operated by Carl & Sophie Spieker. In 1931 Otto Blumes Erber took over. It was equipped with a sound system in 1934 and the cinema was operated by Goethehaus Universum Lichtspiele Theater Betriebs GmbH. In 1949 Willy Kuschel & Danzig Langfur took over, followed in 1950 by Friedrich Muschler & Co. The stage siz was 10.2 x 6.8 x 8 metres. In 1953 Dr. Lommerzheim Koeln Deutsch Filmtheater GmbH Dusseldorf took over. In 1956 the seating capacy was enlarged to 800. and the cinema was operated by Universum Film AG (Ufa). In 1962 Willy Kuschel took over.
The Universum Theater Lichtspiele was closed in 1969. It was later in use as a discotheque named Muelltonne. By 2008 it was in use as a Kleidermarkt (clothing market)
