Now reopened at the time of this post.
On July 21, 2021, I looked at the Google Street View image from February, 2021, and the Bruin appears to be closed. Box office boarded up, marquee dark, no posters in the front patio displays. I’m in Arizona, so can’t check in person. Anyone have an update?
Screened the World premiere of “The World is not enough” on 19/11/1999.
This theater was featured in once upon a time in hollywood.

Attended an Academy screening of Lincoln last night followed by a Q and A panel including the likes of Daniel Day Lewis, Steven Speilberg, John Williams, Kathleen Kennedy, etc. The theater was packed. First time I’ve seen it this way in years. Made me miss the glory days of Westwood. The old house still has it. Excellent presentation.

Speaking of special displays kudos for the El Capitan: They installed a Rapunzel like tower above the marquee for the run of “Tangled” and are giving out a gold coin to each patron as the movie is the 50th Disney animation.
On its opening weekend caught the Saturday 10:20P show for “Burlesque.” There were only about 21 of us at the Bruin. Cher stood out and sang a good number. Christina Aguilera has a powerful voice, but her persona seems manufactured.
As one who has seen classic burlesque performers years ago in Chicago and Philly, the movie “Burlesque” had zero sex appeal. Rent or see “Beyond the Burly Q” for a much grittier and accurate take on this lost art form.
The Thursday midnight show at the Bruin was packed. I was the only senior in the audience and did not see anyone under 18 or over 25 in the audience. The UCLA crowd was great and highly responsive to the movie.
Caught HEREAFTER last night — the bulb was flickering pretty bad for a location with such typically pristine presentation. Hopefully they change it out before POTTER tonight.
Regency really seems interested in being a major exhibitor. I’ve turned into a big fan.
Bruin is now also sold out for the midnight showing of the Harry Potter movie. Westwood will be insane that night and I will be there.
Regency is to be commended and supported for running three great single screens, including the Lido gem in Newport Beach. They also just reopened the Valley 6, near Laurel Canyon & Victory in N Hollywood-only $3.
Wow! The Village is SOLD OUT for the 12:05AM showing on 11/19 for the new Harry Potter movie. Patrons who have never visited the Village before should be impressed and hopefully come back.
I kick myself for not buying my ticket online yesterday while the Village showing was still available. The Bruin’s simultaneous screening still has tickets and I grabbed one. I appreciate that the Regency online ticket service only charges a 50c fee.
Westwood will really be jumping the night/morning of 11/18-11/19. If the parking lots have sense they will stay open all night or at least until 4AM.
I think JACKASS 3D would do well in Westwood. All them Frat Boys at UCLA are the target audience. The first one had a 5 week run at the National.
Well, the Bruin hit a homerun with “Jackass 3D.” I caught the 10:10PM show on Saturday with 400 other patrons. Considering there were six shows on Saturday the attendance was phenomenal.
The Crest will probably implement the surcharge for Tron this Christmas.
Am going to the Bruin on Saturday to see “Jackass 3D.” If this movie doesn’t pull them in nothing will. I was on Hollywood Blvd on Wednesday and the premiere at the Chinese was pandemonium. A large crowd and paparazzi also followed the actors to a cast party at the Hollywood Roosevelt.
