The Wonderland Theatre and Museum launched in downtown Scranton in 1891 at 314-16 Linden Street. Moving to a larger location in 1893, the Wonderland Theatre reopened on Penn Avenue. Moving from arcade units to what was considered large screen, the theatre exhibited early moving pictures. The business decision kept the Wonderland Theatre competitive in the store-show era of nickelodeons. Early Keystones Studio comedies proved lucrative. However, the Wonderland Theatre was dwarfed by new-build photoplay theatres and went out of business in May of 1918. It was used for storage by Comerford Theatres and was demolished in July of 1936.
