M & O Drive-In

Within weeks of each other in 1950, two drive-in theatres were announced for the area. One was to be the Cecil Drive-In by Wade Enterprises on Highway 84 between Enterprise and New Brockton. Even closer to Enterprise was this drive-in on Damascus Road opened by Luke Murphy and Brady Oliver. The name of the theatre was taken from the initials of the two operators' last names, the M & O Drive-In.

The M & O Drive-In accommodated 400 cars with individual speakers. The M & O launched April 17, 1950 with Lois Butler and Bill Goodwin in “Mickey”. Located just one mile from Enterprise on the John Sawyer Pecan Orchard and across from Luther Murphy’s Store, the M & O drew a loyal audience. It likely went out of business in 1970 corresponding with the end of a 20-year leasing cycle and the opening of the nearby Circle Drive-In. The final movies were Fred Astaire in “Finian’s Rainbow” & The Beatles animated feature “Yellow Submarine”.

Looks like some construction is going to happen on the property. The latest Google Street View and Overhead shows the property has been cleared and a road put in.
