John J. and Evelyn Hackenberger launched the Hackenberger Family Drive-In on May 4, 1953 with Richard Derr in “When Worlds Collide”. It was located at the confluence of U.S. 11 and 22 in Duncannon. The theatre was next door to the historic Amity Hall built in 1770. For the 1964 season, new operators changed the theatre name to the Friendship Drive-In.
In 1970, the theatre took the namesake of its neighbor becoming the Amity Hall Drive-In. A flea market was located on its grounds beginning in 1971. A September 2, 1974 double-feature of Robert Redford in “The Hot Rock” and Jeff Bridges in “Last American Hero” were the last advertised show though the theatre may have continued from there.
The Drive-In was razed. A 2009 fire at the Amity Hall led to its eventual demolition in December of 2014.

How could a very old building like Amity Hall be allowed to be demolished(after the fire)? It could have been restored? Is there anything there now on the site?
The original opening date is May 1, 1953, but reports that it was rescheduled to May 4, 1953. Its first attraction is “When Worlds Collide” along with an unnamed cartoon and a newsreel.
