The Dome Theatre was open by 1916 and likely was a continuation of a previous airdrome in Schuyler, Nebraska. Jack Rousek ran the venue until selling it to J. F. Swoboda in 1930. He converted the Dome Theatre to sound and renamed it the Avalon Theatre on October 7, 1930.
E.G. Gannon took on the theatre in January of 1945 closing for two months to give the theatre a Streamline Moderne style makeover with seat count reduced from 420 to 230. Gannon then placed a classified advertisement in the trade magazines offering all 230 seats for sale, a Walker screen and other items as the Avalon Theatre was closed out on November 7, 1948 In 1950 it was converted into office space.

The conversion to sound with associated name change to the Avalon took place on when Joseph F. Svoboda rebooting on October 7, 1930 with Jack Oakie in “The Social Lion.” For years, Svoboda had operated the neighboring tailor shop. The Avalon closed November 7, 1948 with “The Lady in Ermine” and had ostensibly been replaced by the new Sky Theatre on August 11, 1948. The former Avalon facility was remodeled as an office building in 1950.
