General Cinema opened this theater on June 15, 1979, the last twin to open in Northwest Indiana. It’s premiere attractions were “Butch and Sundance:The Early Days” and “Rocky 2”. It was located in a strip mall in the very southeast corner which made it hard to see from either W. Ridge Road or Cline Avenue. This strip mall was the site of the Ridge Road Drive-In which had closed two years earlier.
Unlike the other GCC twins in the area, Griffith Park’s auditoriums were longer in length and smaller in width. The theater did well since it normally played movies exclusively. In the mid-1990’s the theater began to fall on hard times due to competing multiplexes and General Cinema finally closed its doors in 1998. The giant read Cinema I-II sign on the building still sits there though the lobby is virtually empty save for the skeleton of the concession stand. In November 2023 it was being prepared to be demolished, and was demolished in December 2023.

To behfilm, how fares the work on reopening?
I’m not sure but I think this is the same theater on youtube where somebody does a walk through in it just type closed movie theaters
I couldn’t find the one you’re thinking of.
I’ve never been it but when the person walking thorough he added the sounds of the movie trailers in the background but it thinks it is this one
Do you know when that theater is going to be demolished?
This opened on June 15th, 1979. Grand opening ad in the photo section.
Opened on screen 1 with “Rocky 2”, and screen 2 with “Butch and Sundance: The early years”.
Still there, but the windows are boarded up now.
Menard’s purchased the Cinema and attached Griffith Park Plaza shopping center in February 2023. They are currently preparing the area for demolition.
