Eagle Drive-In

The Eagle Drive-In was located on Highway 190 East (E. Murchison Avenue), with a 250 car capacity. The owners were E. E. (Delbert) and Imogene Edmistor. The theater was built in the summer and fall of 1951 with an opening date of November 10, 1951 with George Montgomery in “The Sword of Monte Cristo”. The screen was torn down in the spring of 1973. The concession building remains hiding in a field of mesquite trees.

Found It.

I could not get an exact address on Google Maps, but the nearest intersection is US-190 and Ranch Rd 2596, Eldorado, TX.

The drive-in was located about a quarter-mile east of the intersection on the south side of the highway.

A page ad in the Eldorado Success on November 8, 1951, proclaimed November 10 as the opening date of the Eagle Drive-in Theatre, with “The Sword of Monte Cristo” as the first feature. The ad proclaimed “New Modern Concession Stand” as a feature. Southwest Texas Electric Co-Op welcomed the Theatre as a new member and B.L. Blakeway did the wiring. Mr. and Mrs. Edmiston purchased their equipment from Alex McKenzie. Mr. Edmiston was the projectionist and his wife ran the concession stand. The drive-in location on the ad shows the Menard Highway.

A closer address is 245 U.S. Hwy 190, Eldorado, TX.

This places it around where the screen and entrance road use to be.

A June 2022 Google Street View shows what’s left of the concession stand/projector booth which is a big pile of wood.
