The origins of Hershey Park Theatre date back to 1904 even prior to the opening of Hershey Park. Created as an outdoor amphitheater mainly for live exhibitions and shows, the facility also allowed for roller skating and dances.

At the end of the 1911 season, the amphitheater was enclosed becoming the Hershey Park Theatre. It relaunched in 1912 with live shows but would later add films to the programming mix. By 1926, the theatre had moved to showing films exclusively. The theatre was known simply as the Park Theatre at the end of its existence. The venue was likely not great for sound films and a new theatre was built replacing the original location.

The September 18, 1926 issue of The Billboard said that the Hershey Park Theatre had closed its vaudeville season on September 13, and would resume operation on Decoration Day (now Memorial Day) which in 1927 would have been Monday, May 30. At this time the house was still open air, and the item noted that the 1926 season had been successful despite much rain. The indoor Hershey Park Theatre was built in the 1930s and demolished in 1966.
