K9 Cinemas

While dog-friendly o-zoners such as the Coyote Drive-In were already allowing pups into screenings in the DFW market, K9 Cinemas was launched December 7, 2018 for dog owners who wanted an indoor movie theatre option. Believed to be the first of its kind in the country, the K9 caters to four-legged clientele with repertory films.

Rules at the K9 Cinema depart from traditional theatres. Operator Erik Lankford issued the following three K9 Commandments: 1) clean up after your pet; 2) bring paperwork verifying that your dogs are up-to-date on all of their shots, and 3) a limit of two dogs per human.

The K9 began as a weekends-only / holiday operation. It garnered national attention with a People magazine online article and local attention with print and broadcast media coverage. It was closed in 2020.
