The Teatro Cressoni di Como was opened on 30th December 1870 with the play “Il Proscritto”. Seating was provided in orchestra and two balcony levels. It soon became an opera house. On 12th May 1897 the Lumiere Brothers presented their Cinematograph in the theatre. It was renovated in 1910 and in 1913 was converted into the Cine Cressoni. In the 1930’s it became the Odeon, and in later years, the Cine Centrale. It was closed in 1997.

The building remained empty and unused and was eventrually taken over by squatters. In August 2018 demolition work began to convert the building into apartments, retaining only the facade. During this demolition work a vase containing ancient Roman-era coins was found.
