North Drive-In

Not to be confused with an earlier North Drive-In (which has its own page on Cinema Treasures). On April 17, 1969, the Fourth Avenue Amusement Company from Louisville, Kentucky, opened the new and relocated North Drive-In Theatre screening the 1969 action “The Devils 8” with Christopher George, Fabian and Tom Nardini. The second feature was the 1968 drama “Born Wild” with Tom Nardini and Patty McCormack. The last feature on the program was the 1964 thriller “Pyro” with Barry Sullivan and Martha Hyer. The parking ramps could hold 670 cars with in-a-car speakers and heaters. In November of 1970, the Fourth Avenue Amusement Company was acquired by the United Artist’s Theatre Circuit. This sale included the indoor Indiana Theatre along with the North Drive-In and Corral Drive-In in Terre Haute. On June 29, 1971, the North Drive-In reopened as a UA Theatre.

The North Drive-In finally screened its last movie at the end of season in 1988. The drive-in was demolished, except for the screen tower which is still standing. UA sold the property on May 20, 1992, to new owners. Kessco Water LLC is the current owner.

The good news is that the property was taken over by KJB Theatres and following refurbishment it reopened as the Moon-Lite Drive-In on September 22, 2018. (The Moon-Lite Drive-In has been given its own page on Cinema Treasures).

This North DI is the current Moon Lite DI. The pages should be joined.

Norman..It is different owners and different DI. If the DI never closed and was just sold, I would have combined both DI’s into one listing. Also there was two North DI’s locations and I did not want to get anybody confused about the locations. CT has few a people that like to submit there corrected address’s by used goggle maps and they can be off. This is why I hope CT starts to use GPS coordinates also for locations. Also, 5048 N Lafayette St, Terre Haute, IN 47805 is the CORRECT address for Moon-Lite per there website..jwmovies!!

This is the same location and screen (and refurbished sign) as the Moon Lite. It is different owners but the same location. I have photographed it both before reopening and after. The only thing not the same is the concession/projection booth which was rebuilt when the Drive-In was reopened. The original North DI was further down Lafayette toward downtown Terre Haute and has its own listing.
