According to Bivouac June 1991 was the beginning of the end. I’ve uploaded some of his FLICKR images of the Lyn.
This opened on July 4th, 1947. Grand opening ad in photo section.

I am about to start scanning my negatives, and possibly a few prints, so I can quickly get some images up for the rest of the memebers. When I took on this personal project in ‘91, my wife thought I was crazy and it was all a waste of time and money. It only took two decades to show that what I did, may actually have some historical value after all.

I am about to start scanning my negatives, and possibly a few prints, so I can quickly get some images up for the rest of the memebers. This is truly great news Bivouac. I just saw you joined the Facebook group. You’re going to be everyone’s hero. Can’t wait for the photos. See you on FB. The group is 25 members strong in less than 24 hours and I have little doubt it will end up in the hundreds eventually. Thanks again.

Thanks for the response! I have a LOT of photos! And I even took my life in my hands and went inside the theatre while the steam shovel was knocking in the front of the building! Kind of stupid thing to do, but I did it and got photos as well! One evening during demolition, after the workers had left for the day, I made my way into the basement of the theatre, And removed the old glass paneled DOOR that had the Bell Systems telephone company decal on it! I had it for a couple of years, but unfortunately choose to leave it behind in my garage, when I left Ohio and moved to California. I now kind of wish that I still had it!
Since someone is interested, I will make the effort to create a FLICKER account with my pics. I have frankly a couple of hundred photos, perhaps more! I took a crapload! I also have a nearly identical photo to Cinscope’s, of the LYN sign, excep;t I am standing at the base of it.
Give me some tim to get the photos scanned and posted. So pleased that soemone cares about that odd old place. I always liked it.

cinscope, I’ve snagged your picture from here and posted in my facebook account. I’ll gladly credit you if you’d like to get me your info. And it’s a really fabulous shot I have to say. I’d also love to exchange info and see if it would be possible to get my hands on some of the other photos you and Bivouac may have. I’ll gladly even pay for them. Cheers.
I worked at the Lyn with Ken, Mike, John and Julie for two years just before it closed. We had a crazy amount of fun. We’d go behind the stage and rummage through all the old stuff and we’d even put on music and goof off on the stage late at night when we were supposed to be cleaning. I would spend hours sitting upstairs doing homework or hanging out with the projectionist because we’d only have 2 or 3 people show up per showing. Two days before it was demolished my friend Brian and I scaled the marquee and took the the neon light that reads “movies” in the blue square part in the middle. I still have it. Bivouac, I’d love to see a FLICKR gallery of your photos.
I was a big fan of the LYN Theatre. I went there frequently as a teenager and and well into my twenties. It was a huge barn of a place, yellow brick, terrazzo entryway, the glass-walled concession stand I always liked the place even when it was considered a second run theatre.
I was there at the closing sale in ‘91, and bought one of the theatre seats, I have a yellow BRICK that I picked up during demolition, and finally I have a large collection of photos of the LYN, inside and out,that I took over a period of several weeks between the closing sale and the final demolition. I think I need to scan these and create a FLICKER account to LINK here, so interested parties can see what I saw in the place.

I have searched on and off for some mention of this theater for years now. I was hoping someone still had pictures of it posted somewhere. I grew up in this area of Akron and I had seen many movies at the Lyn (or was it Lynn?). I’ve told my daughters of it’s unique setup with the concession stand on the 2nd floor with the glass walls and speakers so you not only could keep watching the movie while you ran for a snack you could opt to sit up there at the stools and table provided. I was completely heartbroken when I read of it being demolished and I have to make a correction, there is (of all things) a Blockbuster video rental store on the site now.
