The Embassy Theatre was opened on October 17, 1927. After years as the crown jewel of movie theaters in Lewistown, the 1970’s saw the Embassy Theatre’s fortunes nose-dive and it finally shut its doors in 1981.
Ten years later, as the Embassy Theatre stood by waiting for a savior, the Friends of the Embassy Theatre was organized in 1991 to save this classic theater from being lost forever.
The Embassy Theatre is currently raising money to repair its marquee and its interior in hopes of being brought back to life as a performing arts center for the Pennsylvania town. In the early-2000’s, the Embassy Theatre restored its box office and front doors.

What progress has been made on renovating this theatre since 2004.
I hope there has been progress made.
Love that marquee on the outside of the theatre. Thanks for the photo, Lost Memory.

Updated post with a live link Here’s a blog posting with images of the Embassy.
My first ‘real’ job was as an usher at the Embassy in 1955. It was a great time at local theaters, and one of the few places in Lewistown with summer A/C!!
