Built in 1912 for Wilmer D. Turner and opened that year as the Superior Theatre, this house was located on the east side of N. 6th Street between Broad Street and Grace Street. The small but very ornate building was designed by Richmond architect D. Wiley Anderson. In 1916, the Superior Theatre was taken over by Jake Wells and renamed the Odeon Theatre.
The Odeon Theatre remained a popular movie house, usually featuring Paramount films, well into the 1920’s. It was closed in 1927, although it was still listed in the Film Daily Yearbook as late as 1929. It was demolished in the late-1920’s to build an extension to Thalhimers store.
