Sara Raffensburger launched the 350-seat Motionette Theatre in 1916 likely on a 20-year lease. George Deckerd bought the New Bloomfield theatre in 1919.
In 1935, Deckered likely signed a 30-year lease and decided to update the aged Motionette. He hired architect Armand De Cortieux Carroll to give the theatre a streamlined moderne look including a Flexlume neon marquee. And locals must have been delighted when the new-look theatre re-opened as the Perry Theatre with upholstered seating.
And the theatre would last through its 30-year lease closing soon after its 50th Anniversary. Its last showing was Steve Reeves in “Sandokan the Great” on May 19, 1966. A salvage sale followed by demolition occurred in 1967.
