Cinecom Circuit had planned a single-screen Plaza Cinema in 1970 that stalled. Marcus Circuit would create the Rapids Plaza Twin launching April 18, 1975 with “The Great Waldo Pepper” and “Shampoo.” Cinema 1 had 516 seats with the smaller Cinema 2 having 384 seats.
A riot briefly closed the facility when a “Boyz in the Hood” screening went away on July 12, 1991. Marcus closed the twin screener in the multiplex era on September 27, 1992 with “Single White Female” and “Unforgiven”. The facility was a church in the 2010’s.
