Located in the Chamberi district to the north of the city centre. The Cine California opened on 11th November 1949 with “Domador de sirenas” and “Venganza de mujer” It was designed by architects Manuel Ruiz de la Prada & Jose Gomez Mesa.
In the late-1970’s it began operating as an art house cinema and closed in 1999.
After laying unused for many years, it was renovated and re-opened on 10th June 2010 as the Sala Berlanga, named after its owner Luis Garcia Berlanga. It screens independent films.
