The Alpine Theatre in Romney was opened around 1940 as a replacement for the Ideal Theatre on W. Main Street, which the Alpine Theatre Circuit had been operating for some time. After the Alpine Circuit was dissolved, Charles Anderson continued to operate the house in Romney for some years, selling it an retiring in 1961.
Anderson sold the house to his former projectionist, Mike Smith, who operated the theatre until 1978. The last owner of the Alpine Theatre, Jimmy Lambert, closed the house in the mid-1980’s. The building has since been demolished, and its site is now a parking lot.
