Is this theater still around? I am in the process of buying and rehabbing the Philippi Grand and if it proves profitable I want to work on reopening other theaters in WV, KY, OH, PA, MD, and VA. There are so many wonderful old theaters with more character than any modern cookie cutter places.

Answer to Erasmusinwv2: Yes, this theater still exists and is currently for sale! Contact the Mike Haywood Group at www.mikehaywoodgroup.com There are even pictures of the theatre as it is today if you go to listing reference number 12-76. Although it was designed as a single screen, I think reopening this theater would be a great idea as the nearest theaters are at least a half hour from Keyser. I believe that it closed sometime in the 1970’s.

Architected by F & Y Building Services, the Keyser’s Grand Opening was September 25, 1939 with the film, β€œIn Name Only.β€œ Following the April 11, 1977 advertisement and showing of “The Shaggy D.A.” no more ads appear for the Keyser likely spelling the end of the line.

The Keyser Theatre was originally operated by W.M. Buchanan, and she helped construct the Keyser in 1939 while working as the operator for the Piedmont Theatre in neighboring Piedmont, West Virginia (which will have its own Cinema Treasures page soon, which also has an goofed-up error I forgot to fix).
