Picture House

Located in Banff, Banffshire. The Picture House was opened in 1937 with Walt Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”. Seating was on a stadium pland, with 240 seats in the front section and 144 seats in a stepped raised section at the rear (rather than the usual overhanging balcony). It was operated by J.B. Milne Theatres chain. It was equipped with a British Acoustic(BA) sound system.

It operated as a full time cinema until the late-1960’s when bingo took over on Tuesday & Thursday evenings. It screened its last film “"Tom Sawyer” on 4th January 1974 and it became a full time bingo club. After that closed the building stood unused for 3 to 4 years before a boat showroom took it over. In recent years it has been in use as a furniture showroom, but they vacated the building around 2016.

In 1972 the Picture House was given a Category C(s) Listed building status by Historic Scotland.
