Vestavia Theater

Opened with Barbra Streisand in “Funny Girl” on June 8, 1973, the single-screen Jerry Lewis Cinema played sub-run movies. After less than two years it was taken over by Cobb Theatres and renamed Vestavia Theatre. It closed at some point between 1990 and 1992. In its final years it was converted to a draft house style theatre and renamed “The Pitcher Show.

Since then several retail efforts have occupied the space. In the 1990’s a successful computer repair store was there but the days when people had their big home PC’s repaired are as gone as the days of single screen theatres. The current tenant is Alabama Piano.

There seems to be an error in the description. I distinctly recall this theater still being open in the late 1980’s very early 90’s (circa 1987-90) when I was preteen. I think it was a dinner-and-a-movie concept for a time. I do know it was operating as a second run theater by the old Cobb Theaters circuit at that time. I never saw a movie there, as most of the movies were for more mature audiences which would have appreciated the dinner/movie gimmick that has made a comeback (Covid19 restrictions aside) in luxury theaters.
