frinton cinema club hackney

A cinema club operating in the late-1970’s in Victoria Park area of Hackney, east London. A small shop conversion showing “explicit uncut films” under club/member conditions.

The building is in a row of Victorian shops who’s fronts have a one story extension to the pavement, most of the row of houses was extensively rebuilt over the last couple of years, so no trace remains of the Frinton Cinema Club.

Why was it called Frinton?

All of the Victorian shop extensions appear to be residential areas now, with frosted glazing, curtains/blinds etc within. Some basic mouldings at each property divide survives on the former row of shops, so 150 was, indeed, a shop conversion for the cinema club itself.
