Midway Drive-In

The Midway Drive-In was opened by 1951 when it was operated by Sullivan & Strauss. It was closed in the 1980’s. Now Grace Fellowship Church. Most ramps are still there in the overgrowth behind the church.

Outline still visible with the trees…someone build a house where the screen was.

Motion Picture Exhibitor, July 4, 1962: “The south tower of the Midway Drive-In, Benton, Ill., blew down recently but the theatre was able to continue operating despite the occurrence. The Midway is owned by Bob Strauss.”

The theater closed in the 1980s probably. After closure, the theater was left abandoned for many many years until being completely faded sometime after 2007.

Boxoffice, Oct. 14, 1950: “The Midway Drive-In on Route 37, three miles south of Benton, has been opened by Joe Sullivan and Bob Strauss”
