Located on the ground floor of Curtin House. The Barrel Theatrette was opened on 14th March 1975. It was taken over by the Shaft Sinema (located in the same building) for its second screen and renamed Barrell Adult Cinema. Later it was renamed Ram Adult Cinema screening adult gay movies. It was closed on 20th September 2009. It converted into use as a Cantonese restaurant. (The Shaft Adult Cinema has its own page on Cinema Treasures).

The Barrel Theatrette was an adult cinema located at 252 Swanston Street Melbourne. It was located virtually next door to the Shaft Adult Cinema at 264 Swanston Street. I remember because it was the first adult cinema I ever went to. It was the late 80s and I had just turned 18 and so decided to check out an adult cinema out of curiosity. Like the Shaft cinema they had live strip shows between movies. It was my first time seeing a hardcore porn movie and my first live strip show.
