Located in the city centre. The Rodera Lichtspiele was opened in November 1913 and was the second purpose-built cinema in the city. Initially it had 500 seats (although plans were for 650). In 1938 it was taken over by the Ufa chain, and they had it rebuilt to the plans of architect H. Wichmann with 748 seats.
It reopened on 2nd October 1938 as the Ufa am Postplatz with “13 Chairs” starring Heinz Ruhmann and Hans Moser. The cinema was totally destroyed by the Allied firebomb attacks which devastated the city on 13th & 14th February 1945. Later an office block was built on the site in 1966 and it has been demolished and an extension to the old market Gallery now stand on the site.
