Located in the Tiergarten district in west-central Berlin at the corner of Turmstrasse and Stromstrasse. Planned to be named Colosseum, the owners went bankrupt during its construction, and it was taken over by the Ufa chain, opening as the Ufa-Theater Turmstrasse in 1925. It was designed by architects Fritz Wilms & Max Bischoff. The exterior was in a Neo-Classical style, while the interior was in a modern Art Deco style. Seating was provided for 1,200-seats in the orchestra and 500-seats in the balcony. The cinema also boasted a café, which had a stage that accommodated an orchestra. The Ufa-Theater Turmstrasse was closed in 1943 due to damage by Allied bombs. The building was so badly damaged that the auditorium was demolished.
It was rebuilt on a smaller scale to the plans of architect Pierre de Born, using the former café and its façade, and reopened on 27th March 1952 as the Turm-Palast with Danny Kaye in “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”. It had 673 seats. It closed in 1974 and was converted into a supermarket. This closed in 2014 and the building was demolished in 2015 to build a shopping centre.
