Located in the historic walled centre of Prato, in the Tuscany region of northern Italy, it is not known when the Cinema Cristall opened.
It closed to films in or about 2006. Since then it has been used for occasional political meetings, debates and exhibitions. In early-2016 it was reported that a promoter was hoping to present ‘Vision Party’ disco nights in the former cinema.
By July 2025 it had been converted into a grocery store, with a false ceiling in the auditorium, which hides the upper section.

I first visited Prato in March 2016. Between then and my next visit, in July 2025, the former Cristall Cinema has become a grocery store. Interestingly, although the CRISTALL name has been removed from above the entrance, poster cases, presumably from the former cinema, have been installed on either side of the entrance (and then not used). Unfortunately, a suspended ceiling is covering up any decorative plasterwork, etc. that might survive in the former auditorium.
