Entrance to the Homestead Bowling Center

The Paula Carter’s Pro Bowl Cinema was a one-screen located inside the Homestead Bowling Center. It opened on January 14, 1994.

Movie-goers would enter the bowling alley, make a right, then a left at the last bowling lane where there was a walkway between the lane and wall to the cinema entrance. In 1997 it was renamed Fun Center Cinema

The Homestead Bowling Center was closed in 2000 and in 2016 articles in the Miami Herald and South Dade News Leader stated the building will soon be replaced by a Hyundai car dealership. It had been demolished by May 2018.

I visited Homestead on May 11th 2018.

I saw that the building that housed the Fun Center Cinema seems to have been demolished and replaced by the new Hyundai dealership, or maybe one or two of the Bowling Center’s walls have been incorporated into the new building, I’m not sure.

I then attended the groundbreaking ceremony for Homestead Station, a new entertainment complex and transportation hub that will be built in downtown Homestead at the corner of Mowery Drive and Krome Avenue, and will include a new bowling alley and a multiplex cinema.

Wow, thanks rivest266. I had once walked into the bowling part of the facility, but had never seen what the inside of the theater auditorium had looked like until you posted this article with its photo.

It’s interesting to read that at the time this cinema opened, “the bowling alley bijou…. is the only post-hurricane [Andrew] screen operating south of Kendall Drive at the moment…”, seventeen months after the storm wrecked South Dade.

Homestead now has a cinema and bowling combination again at the ShowBiz Cinema in the Homestead Station complex (that I had mentioned was being built in my May 2018 comment above).

I am a little late to this party, but I saw a movie there one time after it first started operating. I do not recall the film, but I do recall thinking about how small the screen was and how uncomfortable the chairs were. I am glad rivest266 was able to post a newspaper clipping.
