State Cinema

Located in the North Hobart district. The North Hobart Picture Palace was opened on October 2, 1913. Originally seating was provided for 412. It was closed in 1921 and became a billiard hall, gymnasium and boxing venue. It re-opened as the Liberty Theatre in 1935.

On 18th August 1948 it was re-named State Theatre. From 2006, extra screens have been added, and by 2014 it has it has 8-screens now offering over 700 seats, plus a roof-top cinema & bar. It was later operating with 11-screens. In November 2019 it was sold to Reading Cinemas.
