In the Lancashire town of Atherton, in the north west of Greater Manchester, the Savoy Cinema was opened on 17th January 1927 with John Barrymore in “The Sea Beast”. It was owned by Eagle Picturedromes Ltd; that ownership continued until at least 1953. On the 24th February 1930 it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. In 1932 & 1933 it was operated by the J.F. Emery Circuit.
The Savoy Cinema closed in 1967. It was converted into a bingo club.
After bingo closed, the building became a snooker hall. That was operated by Rileys when I visited, in July 2005, but the building has since been vacated. In December 2015 it was being offered for rent at £15,000pa - with modernisation required. By 2017 the white glazed tiles on the façade have been rendered over with cement. In early-2018 it was converted into a dance studio.

In the new year of 2018, and fully refurbished, it is now the home of Golden Dance Studios, who have expanded from their smaller premises in Daisy Hill, Westhoughton.
Opened with “The Sea Beast” on 17 January 1927.
