Palace Cinema

In the Lancashire town of Atherton, north west of Manchester, the Palace Cinema opened in July 1912. It was owned by Eagle Picturedromes Ltd. and had 650 seats. In July 1930 it was equipped with a British Talking Pictures(BTP) sound system. In 1932 & 1933 it was operated by the J.F. Emery Circuit and then passed back to Easgle Picturedromes Ltd.

That ownership remained until at least 1953 (as noted in the Kinematograph Year Books), the only change being a reduction in seating capacity to 477.

The Palace Cinema closed in August 1957 and became a nightclub. By 1996, Boots the Chemists occupied the former foyer area, while the auditorium has been home to a succession of nightclubs.
