The Center Theatre was opened on December 30, 1950 with John Wayne in “Red River” & John Lund in “My Friend Irma”. Listed as seating 1,100 in the Film Daily Yearbook of 1952. The Center Theatre was reopened as the Teatro Cortez on August 18, 1952., but had closed by 1957. It had been demolished by 2007.

Boxoffice, Oct. 4, 1952, referring to the Bessemer neighborhood of Pueblo: “BESSEMER, COLO. – The Center Theatre here has been reopened under new management and a new name. Alex Provas, who has been in theatre business for nearly 40 years, has leased the house. He came to Pueblo from Albuquerque. He will operate the house under the name Teatro Cortez as a strictly Spanish-film house. Provas plans to remodel the theatre.”
This was at 315 Canal Street in the Steel Center. It opened on December 30th, 1950, with “Red River” and “My Friend Irma” and broadcast over KGHF. Grand opening ad posted.
Reopened as the Teatro Cortez on August 18th, 1952 with celebrities of Mexican cinema in person. Another ad posted. Ads stopped in the Pueblo English-speaking print media shortly after.
The December 16, 1950 issue of Boxoffice noted the opening of the Center Theatre in Pueblo, Colorado, by the Westland Theatres chain. This was Westland Theatres, Inc., based in Denver and not related to the Westland Theatres chain founded in San Francisco and later headquartered in Stockton, California during the same period.
