The Plaza Cinemas were opened by Famous Players on December 20, 1973 in the K-Mart Plaza (now the Smythe Street Plaza) on Smythe Street in Fredericton. At its opening, the Plaza Cinemas originally had two screens, each seating 388 and 230 respectively.
On August 21, 1981 two more screens seating 216 and 227 were added, bringing the seating total in the expanded fourplex to 1,061. Empire Theatres took over in 1986 The Plaza Cinemas closed on December 12, 1996 when Empire opened the 10-screen Studio 10 at Regent Mall (now Cineplex Fredericton).

This web page with many nostalgic recollections of the Plaza Cinemas (among other things) says that the expansion to four screens was part of extensive renovations that were undertaken in 1982-83. The building has been converted to retail space.
The Plaza theatre was opened by Famous Players with two screens on December 20th, 1973, with screens 3 & 4 opening on August 21st, 1981. It was later taken over by Empire Theatres in 1986 and closed on December 12th, 1996, just in time for the new Empire Cinemas. Grand opening ads posted.
