Ritz Gardens

The Mount Hawthorn Picture Gardens opened in 1925(at 424 Oxford Street), and renamed the Ritz Gardens in 1937. The Ritz Gardens moved across the road in 1939 so the Ritz Theatre could be built there. The Ritz Gardens closed in(1946 or 1947?) and moved to the intersection of Edinboro Street(and Scarborough Beach Road?). The site at 425 Oxford Street became the Mount Hawthorn Telephone(and post office?). The telephone exchange is still there. The site in Edinboro Street is possibly Axford Park or the new(office) building(formally a service station).

The second location for the Ritz Picture Gardens opened in December 1949 at 112 Hobart Street on the site of a former State Housing Commission house on the erastern side of Axford Lane. The second Ritz Picture Gardens closed in(1960’s or 1970’s?) The gardens were demolished in the (1960’s or 1970’s?), and the site is now a warehouse for food and mineral(or spring?) water.
