50-South Drive-In

The 50-South Drive-In was opened in 1949 when it was operated by William Flynn, who was still the operator in 1955. It was later run by Commonwealth Theatres and was just west on Emporia on Highway 50. It had closed by the early-1980’s.

Today, a business sits on the site and there is very little left save for the faint outline of the drive-in, the impression of ramps, the foundation for the screen, marquee and the projection booth/concession stand.

The address provided by JWMovies is incorrect. It misses the property by ¼ mile to the east.

1761 Rd G, Emporia, KS is the current address of the property. The Google marker clearly indicates it as it sits right next to the projector booth/concession stand. http://tinyurl.com/hmfhyor

When the entrance to the property changed from US 50 to Road G, it changed the address of the property.

For accuracy purposes (at least for Google Maps), please change the address back to 1761 Rd G, Emporia, KS.

The Theater Closed Between The Late 1970’s And Early 1980’s. In 1982, A Person Ran A Random Compilation Of Various Local Emperia Intermission Reels Including The 50-South And The Nearby Flinthills Cinemas.
