Palace Cinema

Located on Merton Road off Fife Street in the northeast district of Winkobank. Opened as the Winkobank Picture Palace, the date on the building says 1914. It is listed in Kinematograph Year Book 1931 edition as the Palace Cinema with Western Electric(WE) sound. In 1942 it is listed with 610 seats. In 1947 with 540 seats, & 1954 with 496 seats. The screen was 13 ft. 2 inches x 9½ ft. The proscenium width was 25 ft. It was closed in February 1959 with Frank Sinatra in “The Joker is Wild” . It became a plumber’s merchants named Cowen Barrett, last named Graham. By September 2020 it was vacant & ‘For Sale’
