AMC Irving 6

Opened June 4, 1982, across the street from the Irving Mall, to compete with the General Cinema Irving Mall I-II-III. It opening features included “Hanky Panky” and “Star Trek:Wrath of Khan”. Later General Cinema would get aggressive and build a second theatre inside the Irving Mall (the IV & VII). AMC gradually downgraded the Irving 6 to a sub-run discount house.

When Starplex constructed a new-build discount house less than 2-miles away on March 29, 1996, the discount money was heading there. The death knell for the AMC Irving 6 came when General Cinemas announced a new 14-screen megaplex inside of Irving Mall.

The AMC Irving 6 was closed in the weeks of May 3, 1999. It was converted into a Bally’s Gymnasium, which in 2015 operates as a Total Fitness gymnasium.
