Irving Mall ad January 2, 1983

This General Cinema originally opened November 17, 1971 as a two-screen theatre. Screen 1 had 900-seats, opening with Dean Martin in “Something Big”. Screen 2 had 450-seats, opening with Omar Sharif in “Doctor Zhivago”. In late-1976 Screen 1 wad divided to create a 3-screen theatre. General Cinema added four more screens in another part of the mall on October 26, 1984 (they have their own page on Cinema Treasures). It was closed in 1997 and this theatre has been demolished.

There is an AMC currently operating in a different part of the mall at this time.

The Irving Mall launched on August 4, 1971 and was theaterless for only its first three months of operation. When the Irving I & II opened its doors by General Cinema on November 17, 1971 with “Something Big” in Screen 1 and “Doctor Zhivago” in Screen 2, it had a capacity of 1,350 seats (with 900 seats in Screen 1 and 450 seats in Screen 2). Screen 1 was divided into two in late-1976 and became the Irving I-II-III.
