Located in Knottingley to the northeast of Pontefract, Yorkshire. The Palace Cinema was opened in February 1913. By 1931 it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. It had a proscenium width of 20ft. Still open in 1954 operated by the Leeds based Star Cinemas chain, it was closed on 3rd December 1960. In the early-2000’s the auditorium was demolished and two houses constructed, retaining the façade.

The Palace was built in 1912 and was showing films by February 1913. It was operated originally by RTA Pictures, reputedly the initials of the partners in the company. Subsequent owners included J & G Howdle in 1925 and A & H Wood in 1932. An installation by Tony Harrison called Promethius was set up here in 1977.
