The Lyric Theater dates back to March of 1914 in the Anaconda Standard when they were showing movies of the Mexican war. The theater was listed on the Sanborn Insurance Maps of 1916. There was also a previous Lyric Theater in Butte at 218. N. Main, which operated from 1908 to 1910.
In 1913 charges were filed against the manager of the Lyric Theater for conducting a lottery. The county attorney said that with each ticket bought the patron had a chance to win a lot in Santa Rosa, California.
In February of 1922 a For Sale notice appeared in the local newspaper, and from all accounts the Lyric Theater never opened again. The theater has long been demolished and the location today would be the parking lot in front of Lowney Dental.
