Actual closing date is August 26, 1969 with John Wayne’s “Hellfighters” and George Peppard’s “House Of Cards”.
Closed in 1969 just before the opening of the new Skyway Twin Drive-In.
The Skyway Drive-In Opened Its Gates On April 7th, 1948 With Her Husband’s Affairs. 2 Months Prior To The Skyway’s Opening, Coming Soon Messages Were Written All Over From January To February 1948. The Skyway Drive-In Continued To Run Movies Until 1968 And Was Used For Special Events Until 1976.
Billboard, Nov. 20, 1954: “ A major remodeling project has been started at Skyway Drive-In, Bryan. Tex., which is owned by Jack A. Farr, Houston. CinemaScope will be installed. Also in the plans are a new patio for the front area, a remodeled snack bar and new playground equipment. Capacity of the drive-in will be increased from 650 to 900 speakers. Farr also plans to install a swimming pool alongside the drive-in.”
Correction the Circle Drive-In was operated by Schulman Theatres BUT was located in College Station……….
Okay here we go there was three DI’s in Bryan, TX. The Skyway, Skyway Twin and the Circle. All run by Schulman Theatres. The address given 2080 E. 29th Street, Bryan,TX 77802 is for the Skyway Twin. The address for the Skyway DI is unknown at this time.
