Luxury Theatres opened the Tigard Cinemas in March of 1988 and in May of 1989, Act III Theatres purchased Luxury Theatres for $150 million. The Portland Oregonian quoted the president of Act III as saying that the five-screen Tigard cinema was “one of the crown jewels” of the Luxury chain. He said the architectural firm of Thompson Vaivoda & Associates, which won awards for the Tigard Cinemas, has been retained to set a “fresh, contemporary look” to the rest of the chain. On December 15, 1989 Act III Theatres added six more screens to the Tigard Cinemas.
In 1997 the takeover kings, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts purchased Act III for $1.5 billion and in 1998 it was folded into the company that later became known as Regal Entertainment Group. They closed the theatre on March 16, 2023.
